The Freelands

Not every corner of the fractured United States responded to magic’s return with fear. The Freelands — what used to be New England — welcomed it instead, and the change shows in small, striking ways: spell components sold over the counter at the drugstore, witches and shamans riding along on ambulance calls, hospitals fortified with healing magic alongside the usual kind.

It’s the closest thing the Baku-verse has to a safe harbor — home turf for the Awakened, and the region Portland, Maine calls its own. Not because the danger is gone, but because the Freelands decided coexistence was worth trying anyway.
